Canvas Aspect Ratio Calculator

Reduce width and height to an exact aspect ratio, find the nearest common proportion, match standard canvas sizes, and estimate fill cropping.

The interactive calculator reduces the entered dimensions, preserves portrait or landscape orientation, ranks 30 standard canvas sizes, and estimates a fill crop.

How the canvas match is calculated

  1. Convert decimal dimensions to whole-number terms and reduce them by their greatest common divisor.
  2. Compare the resulting width-to-height proportion with common ratios and standard canvas formats.
  3. Keep the source orientation when displaying portrait or landscape canvas matches.
  4. Estimate the percentage removed along one dimension when an image must fill a different ratio.

The crop percentage describes width or height removed, not total image area.
